City of Ahmedabad: About 80 years after it was founded in 1931 with a bed capacity of 120 beds, is the VS Hospital is an establishment of 1,500 beds. Vadilal Sarabhai Hospital recently decided to build two towers in the existing premises.

These twin towers have all facilities under one roof, said Asit Vora, mayor and chairman of the hospital. The project is 200 million rupees for the construction of these towers will begin soon and the board intends to complete the entire project in VS the next two years.

The proposed buildings would be 10.5 lakh square feet area. One of them is the tower of 20 floors (including ground floor) and the height of this tower would be about 70 meters, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials said.

VS Hospital is a multi-activity and multi-specialty hospital, which was the vision of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The hospital was founded in 1931 with an initial capital of R four lakh. It has 1115 beds and is operated by AMC. More than five lakh patients are treated here every year, on average 1600 patients per day. As 25,000 transactions each year.

AMC official said that the AMC has yet to decide the structure of the towers would be RCC or steel structure. He said once a project has been approved, could be decided. An official said once the new hospital buildings are built, old ones would be phased out.
