As Ganesh Chaturthi is nearing festival, preparations are in full swing at home to welcome the Lord. In addition to the traffic police, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is also planning to charge for the festival.
In a move to avoid environmental contamination from entering the civic body is planning to build artificial lakes of immersion of idols. This is the first time, when the city is a huge artificial pools Ganesh immersion.
Speaking to DNA, Deputy Commissioner, Municipal IK Patel said: “We intend to build ponds. But convincing the conservative sectors of people to use their will be a challenge.”
He said: “We are still two days to finalize the plan we present the final round of meetings with police and organizers to seek co-operation.”.
The ponds will be as directed by the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB).Instead of immersing the idols in the river directly, people are encouraged to delve into these artificial ponds near the river bank.
The officials explained that the large pits are dug near the river bank and layered with thick plastic sheeting. They will be filled with water pumped from the nearby river. The leaves will prevent polluted water from entering the stream. Post-immersion, contaminated water into the pit as clay, plaster of Paris, and artificial colors, transferred to plants of the association, said an official.
“The basic idea is to change people’s attitudes towards the environment and its protection,” said Shah employees, managing coordinator of the Society for the Protection of the Environment, which has adopted guidelines for creating ponds AMC.
