The state government has banned the use of plaster of Paris (POP) to make idols of gods and the immersion of idols in public waters because of the pollution it causes, which are a danger for marine life.

But there are people who, motivated by concern for the environment, choose clay idols of Ganesh worship ecological and Goddess Dashami.

Despite the clay idols costs almost three times the pop idols, a dozen individuals and organizations have placed orders with the manufacturer of idols in Manglesh Amraiwadi area.

Shri Shakti Yuvak Mandal, a group of ten people to organize Ganeshotsav Maninagar in four years, has used eco-idols for three years. “When we got to know the dangers of the environment from persistent organic pollutants, we started to order environmentally friendly idols,” said Mitesh Thakkar, a volunteer in the group.

He said that if they used to get pop idols for about RS3, 000, they pay RS9, 000 eco-idols. “We organized Ganeshotsav in 31 years. In the past we used to buy idols of Ganesh is pop, but for the past eight years, we have chosen clay idols, “said Mitra Mandal Rajasthan Summit Yadav Choksi of nine Chali in Rakhial.
