The innovative and systematic method prepared by Indian Institute of Management — Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta (IIM-A, B and C) — that enables a candidate to save travel time and money, has proved to be a huge success.

The concept created by three admission chairpersons — Professor Diptesh Ghosh of IIM-A, Professor R Srinivasan of IIM-B and Professor Jankiraman Moorthy of IIM-C — schedules interview calls of a candidate at one given place, thereby saving time and energy. The method also saves cost incurred by the institute on faculty.

Professor Ghosh said, “Over the years we realised that if a candidate gets calls from more than one IIM, the candidate wastes a lot of time travelling to different cities for interviews. “That was the reason we thought of preparing this model which will enable students — who get calls from more than one IIM — travel to only one city. This will save them from multiple travel.”

There have been times when a candidate is forced to choose air travel to reach two cities on one single day to appear for two different interviews, he added.

“This model has proved to be a success as it not only reduces mental stress but also the physical stress that a candidate has to undergo. We have spoken to the candidates and have taken feedback about new system and we have received positive responses,” Ghosh added.

Interview calling
A total of 950 students have received more than one call from IIMs this year. Ankit Tulsian, 20, a student of Endeavour Coaching Institute, received calls from nine IIMs. He said, “My interview calls of IIM-A, B and C were all held in Mumbai.

“So, I didn’t have to travel to three different cities for the same. The process went on smoothly. I think this model should be adapted by other B-schools too, as it saves a lot of time, energy and money of the students.”

“I am in my final year of graduation and simultaneously I am also pursuing my CA. Therefore, this process saved a lot of time,” he added.
