The Ahmedabad district police busted a gang of thieves who reportedly robbed and looted moving trucks on highways connecting Ahmedabad.

The accused have been identified as Asif Qureshi (28) from Mirzapur, Shahbazkhan Pathan (20) from Saiyedwadi, Furkhan Saiyed (26) from Ellisbridge, Asif Pathan (20) from Vatva in Ahmedabad city and Ashraf Vadaria (23) from Dhandhuka taluka of Ahmedabad district.

The gang was busted after they were apprehended near the Navdurga Circle with a stolen dumper, said the police.

The accused had robbed a truck driver, Ehsaan Pathan from Wadhwan in Surendranagar district on March 5. Ehsaan had left Surendranagar with his dumper GJ 13 W 753 when accused asked him for a lift. When the truck reached Sarkhej, they reportedly threatened Ehsaan with a knife and robbed him of his cash, mobile phone and pushed him out of the truck. The accused absconded with the truck worth Rs. 12 lakh.

The police seized six mobile phones from them and a Rampuri knife. When the accused reportedly disclosed from where they stole mobile phones, the robbery case of the truck driver came to the fore.

The police added that this gang’s modus operandi was to target trucks moving on the connecting highways in Ahmedabad. They reportedly looted the drivers of their cash and other valuables and then absconded with the trucks.

The police have booked the accused for theft and loot under various sections of the IPC. Further Source by Indian Express
