The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is trying hard to ensure that new version of Kankaria Lake becomes a part of tourist loop. And for this, the civic body is tapping into tour organizers operating in Ahmedabad. On Sunday, AMC organized an excursion to the Kankaria lake for 35 tour and travel agents of the city. The agents were taken in a BRTS bus, which they boarded at Shivranjini, for a hands-on experience of the Kankaria lakefront visit. A favorite project of chief minister Narendra Modi, the lakefront and has turned to be a big money churner for AMC.

The new Kankaria, with Rs 10 entry fee, attracts around 12,000 to 15,000 visitors daily and the numbers double on weekend.

“The agents were given a ride in the mini-train and also in Ahmedabad eye, a helium tethered balloon. They were also taken boating and to Kids City, which are the new additions to the lakefront attractions,” said an AMC official. He added that the tour operators who guide tourists coming to the city were ignorant about the new entertainment offerings at the place. and were amazed to see the new face of Kankaria, he added.

“Almost all the agents have now decided to offer tourists coming to city a tour to Kankaria. Earlier, we took visitors to Sabarmati Ashram and Akshardham only,but we feel trip to the city is incomplete without a visit to the lake,” said Shreeram Patel, chairman, Gujarat chapter, Travel Agents Association Of India.
