The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and city traffic police? which otherwise do not bother to remove encroachments on roadsides? are strictly following the state government’s instruction to keep vendors clear from main roads.
The civic authorities have removed all kinds of encroachments on roads in areas like Iscon crossroads, IIM-A and AMA.
Especially the roads that chief minister Narendra Modi may drive through while on his way to attend a function, have been cleared of infringements.
Even as the state government looks at business opportunities through MoUs worth crores of rupees, the poor vendors stand to lose their daily earnings. With the authorities not allowing them to run their roadside business, they are having a tough time.
To keep city roads free from encroachment is one of the tasks given to the AMC and city traffic police as part of duties assigned during the summit.
The AMC officials are running around to keep the city clean and green.
“We are instructed to keep the city clean. So, we are making sure that the solid waste collection is done properly. The safai kamdars are working round the clock to keep city litter-free,” said an AMC official.
Not only that, the AMC is also assigned the task of planting decorative plants and saplings at intersections and circles on the way to Gandhinagar.
“As part of our duty, we have also planted flowery saplings at a circle which is supposed to be maintained by the Apollo Hospital,” said another official.
The AMC has also prepared an elaborate plan to guide delegates, who have been put up in city hotels. “We are providing individual map and brochures to delegates who have been put up in 12 hotels of Ahmedabad. It is to help them reach Mahatma Mandir from their hotels,” said the official. Source by DnaIndia
