The summer placement process for students of two programmes at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA), is all set to begin from today. 380 students of the post-graduate programme in management (PGP) and 40 of the PGP in agribusiness management (PGP-ABM), for the batches of 2010-2012, will sit for the process.
For the very first time, the management mecca will have a cohort-based system, in place of the earlier day-based one. IIMA bosses have adopted this new system so that students get more time to understand the profile of the offers made by the companies, and make the right choice.
A cohort is a group or set of companies, which have similar profiles and remuneration to offer to the students. A group of cohorts makes a cluster – formed by companies from various sectors. Students will hence, depending on their individual choices, be able to prioritise and take a call on which company to choose for the summer internship.
With the beginning of the summer placement procedure, the first cluster will be held on November 12, that is today. Clusters 2, 3 and 4 will follow on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
Speaking about the summer placements this year, chairperson of placements at IIMA, prof Saral Mukherjee, said that this is an academic exercice. “We aim to get a diverse set of recruiters at the campus, so that the students get an experience closer to reality,” he said.
Mukherjee said that this year, IIMA has received an exceptionally high number of pre-placement offers (PPOs). “The final figure can be arrived at only after we confirm the figures at the end of the procedure. But it has gone up significantly this year,” he said. Source by DnaIndia
