The Indore Development Authority (IDA) has asked the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) to develop a BRTS system, which is similar to BRTS in Ahmedabad.
The city was to follow the Delhi-Pune model however the model’s limited success in those cities propelled the IDA to look for an alternative model for the city. The Ahmedabad model has received praises for being efficient, according to Professor H M Shivanand Swamy, Associate Director of CEPT who heads the Ahmedabad project.
The project was earlier handled by IIT-Delhi, which choose the Pune-Delhi model involving docking of the buses on the left side instead of centre of the road causing inconvenience to the public at junctions and also used up more space on the road. The Ahmedabad model proposes bus stops in the centre of the road.
The redesigning of the Indore BRTS is to improve the efficiency of the system and have right hand docking at the centre of the road and also to improve the frequency of the buses.
The earlier plans involved building of bus stations on each side of the road near the junctions, which is inconvenient for the public and also costs almost double the price than to build docking at the centre of the road.
The system will follow the Public-Private-Partnership model and the BRT system will be run by the Indore City Transport Service Ltd (ICTSL). Source by Topnews.ae
