The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in association with the state election commission has begun a door to door campaign for e-voting.
The move comes after lack of enthusiasm on part of Bodakdev residents for e-voting. The state election commission has chosen Bodakdev ward for pilot testing for implementing the e-voting in upcoming AMC elections.
The AMC has formed a committee of 20 people to visit households in Bodakdev and make the citizens aware of e-voting and its benefits.
For the last couple of days, the AMC’s committee has been working towards the same but even then the response is not as per expectations. The AMC officials have so far received around 56 applications from residents who are willing to e-vote from home in Bodakdev ward.
And there are 24 people in Bodakdev ward who have come forward to opt for e- voting. As per the details available from the 2001 census, Bodakdev has a population of 77,094.
“We have started distributing pamphlets to citizens informing them about e-voting. When team members visit households they also provide them with the pamphlets which give instruction about what to do for e-voting,” said a senior AMC official.
The official also said that they have tied up with theatres and multiplexes to run scrolls that inform them about the procedure.
“We have also tied up with radio stations for the same,” said the official.
The civic body has also opened a control room at Bodakdev fire station to help citizens in the matter. According to the pamphlet, the citizens can register for e-voting at Jodhpur, Vastrapur, Bodakdev fire station and Memnagar Nagarpalika office.
Perhaps what has hurt the AMC’s campaign is the fact that the civic body has only managed to get details of BSNL internet connections in Bodakdev. Source by DnaIndia
