Ahmedabad: The monsoon, progressing further towards Ahmedabad on Wednesday, now has the entire Gujarat region under its ‘spell’. Rains reigned over Saurashtra on Wednesday, informed the state weather office.
However, contrary to favourable conditions for rain, Ahmedabad largely remained cloudy yet dry, and its maximum temperature that had dipped to 34°C on Tuesday with a single seasonal drizzle, again upped to 36.3°C on Wednesday. Kutch, however, witnessed rainfall in isolated places.
Kamaljit Ray, director of India Meteorological Department, (IMD), Gujarat, said that the monsoon has already set in, with the southwesterly winds. “While we expect heavy rains in south Gujarat, Ahmedabad is expected to have light rains and one or two scattered spells within the next 48 hours”, she said.
The IMD forecast notes that heavy rains would occur at many places in districts of Saurashtra, and in Diu, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Light to moderate rain would occur at isolated places in Kutch district. However, the forecast for Ahmedabad states only one or two spells of rains.
In the Gujarat region, Jalalpur recorded 13 cm rain, Nanipalsan 8 cm, Madhuban, Kamrej, Palsana and Ukai 7 cm each, Rajpipla, Silvassa and Songadh 6 cm each, Dehgam, Dharampur, Bansda and Ahwa 5 cm each, Halol, Kapadvanj, Sagbara, Navsari and Olpad 4 cm each, and Umargaon and Hansot 3 cm each. About 2 cm rainfall was recorded at many places in Saurashtra.
In Kutch, about 2 cm and less rainfall was recorded in a number of places. Gondal received 11 cm of rain, Bhanvad and Dhoraji 9 cm each, Dhari and Kalavad 8 cm each, Jafrabad, Maliya, Vanthali and Muli 5 cm each, Sayla, Bhavnagar, Wadhvan, Botad, Mahuva and Jetpur 4 cm each, and 3 cm each in Amreli, Bagsara, Lilia and Rajula.
