Soon, contractors for construction of footpaths will have to submit samples of the material they propose to use for paving, for laboratory testing. The Road and Building committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to introduce the system of material inspection, at least in work tender given for paving of footpaths.
The motive behind the proposed idea is to keep a check on the quality of material used in construction. Chairman of the committee Manu Katharotia said, when the AMC boss checks the material to be used in the work the contractors show their best material. But, it has been observed that when the contractors begin the work, poor quality material is used.
Katharotia said, they would take the sample and send it for testing, at least once after the work begins, so as to ensure that the same quality of material is used,” said Katharotia.
In the committee meeting, it was also decided to convert the crematorium, now run with electricity, to CNG. “We have observed that AMC has to spend around Rs1200 to Rs1500 in electricity based crematorium and the expense can come down to Rs300 toRs350 when CNG is used,” said Katharotia.
Meanwhile, the Town Planning and Estate committee on Monday discussed auction of shops under the schemes for Economically Weaker Section (EWS). The AMC sold off shops worth Rs 81 lakh in auction.
