Power firms plan 500Mw plants in Gujarat

AHMEDABAD: Two power companies, NTPC and Gujarat Power Corporation (GPCL), signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore projects in geo-thermal, tidal and hydro power projects.

The state government of Gujarat has already allocated 50 Mw solar capacity power project to NTPC at Morwada in Banaskantha district…the state government has identified Kutch, Banaskantha, Patan and Surendranagar districts and areas in the northern province of the state to develop solar-based projects.

Union minister of state for power Bharatsinh Solanki said: “The 50 Mw solar project to be executed in Morwada will have an investment of Rs 500 crore… the total investment for 500 Mw will be approximately Rs 4,000 crore…”

Energy Minister of Gujarat Saurabh Dalal added: “NTPC has expressed interest to put up one thermal-based power project in the state… we have welcomed that offer…”
