If you are a resident of Bopal who constantly faces traffic chaos, lack of police presence and increasing incidents of eve teasing and thefts in the area, then you have a reason to rejoice. For, the Ahmedabad Rural Police plans to focus on the area and improve policing there. What more they have also increased the manpower at Bopal police chowky for the same. The number of police staff, headed by a police sub inspector, has been increased to 11 from the earlier four. This is likely to improve the policing efforts in the area. Bopal has reported a constant rise in traffic chaos, eve teasing and other crimes after the area saw a burst in population.
“The new police staff allotted to Bopal chowky are to serve only in Bopal and not in other chowkies of rural areas like Sarkhej,” said district superintendent of police, Ahmedabad Rural, Sandeep Singh.Earlier, the police staff of Bopal chowky was also asked to handle other areas under the Sarkhej police station. But this will now be stopped.”We have started several drives to identify and punish the traffic violators in the area,” Singh said.The police have already started a drive to nab drivers who do not have a licence and those who drive two-wheelers without a helmet.
Car drivers who drive without securing the seat belt are also being targeted.The Bopal chowky, which had been under-staffed for the last many years, has finally been given seven more police officials. “An IPS officer on probation will also be used for effective policing in the area,” said Singh.
Bopal has seen a boom in realty and a rise in population since the last few years.
Its proximity to the SP ring road has only added to the traffic chaos. The increased construction activity in the areas has also led to more heavy vehicles plying on the roads of Bopal. The effective policing may finally be the answer to some of Bopal residents’ pressing problems.
