AHMEDABAD: In one of the biggest and most daring thefts in the western part of the city post Diwali, thieves took away cash and valuables worth Rs 9.05 lakh from a trader’s house in Satellite.
Gold and diamond jewellery, silver coins, three expensive watches and Rs 2.50 lakh cash were stolen from Anil Gada’s makeshift office on the ground floor of his house.
Gada, a resident of Ashwaraj Bungalows near Prahladnagar Gardens, lodged a complaint for the theft at Satellite police
station.
“The theft took place between 12 midnight and 5 am on Monday. Thieves broke the lock on the grill and then extracted a glass from the glass wall. The theft was well-planned as they headed directly towards the safe where the valuables were kept and broke it with a sharp object,” said MH Vasani, inspector of Satellite police station.
The room where the theft took place is used as a meeting place by Gada for his business meeting. The room is a glass structure on the side of the main entrance of the house.
Gada, said officials, is a cloth merchant from Rajasthan. He has set up a business in the city and has to travel a lot. He and his family members were sleeping on the first floor of the house when the incident took place. They reported the incident to the police only after nearby residents spotted the broken lock and missing glass on Monday morning.
