Dipika Sunil Soni, a 23-year-old lady who seven months pregnant died at the VS municipal hospital on Wednesday evening from swine flu (H1N1) infection. Soni was admitted to the VS hospital on October 25 in a critical condition. With her death, the death toll in the state from H1N1 has risen to 40.
According to health and family welfare department sources, the patient was a resident of Udaipur in Rajasthan. "As per the records the patient started showing complications on October 19 and was admitted at the Udaipur civil hospital on October 21.
However, seeing no improvement in her condition, relatives of the patient brought her to the VS hospital in Ahmedabad for further treatment," sources said.Soni was admitted at the VS hospital on October 25 and was kept on a ventilator and treated with Tamiflu. Swap samples were taken on the date of admission at the hospital which proved she was H1N1 positive from test results the next day.
However, question arises as to why the patient was sent from Udaipur to Ahmedabad in such a critical condition for treatment when her treatment was already going on in the hospital at Rajasthan?
However, DNA's best attempts to contact the spokesperson in health department, no one was available for their comments.
