AHMEDABAD: Barely days before the scheduled launch, a BRTS bus was damaged when a car rammed into the bus near Nirnaynagar on Saturday morning.
BRTS authorities have launched an inquiry to avoid such accidents.
The traffic department has taken the incident seriously and asked officials to ensure stringent discipline on the BRTS corridor. According to Naranpura police station officials, a BRTS bus returning from Chandkheda was passing by Nirnaynagar crossroads at 9.30 am. When the bus came out of the dedicated corridor, it was hit by a Maruti 800 car which jumped the signal despite traffic marshals asking it to stop.
PM Parmar, inspector of Naranpura police station, told TOI a complaint has been lodged against the errant Maruti driver. “No one has been detained so far. We took statements of the parties involved. The complainants have also mentioned that the driver was beaten up by some youths soon after the incident. The investigation is on,” he said.
Pankaj Gandhi, chairman and managing director of Chartered Logistics, operators of BRTS in the city said, “We are looking into the role of the driver and the car driver. The case will be resolved to prevent any such incidents in the future,” he said.
According to traffic branch officials, as there are many crossroads involving open BRTS lane, the traffic needs to be disciplined. “We have already deployed traffic brigade volunteers and instructed them to be strict with commuters. Errant commuters who drive on the corridor have already been punished,” said a senior traffic branch official.
