Rains will dry up over next few days

Ahmedabad: Less rainfall is predicted in the city in the next couple of days because of weakening of cyclonic circulation over Gujarat. The meteorology department has predicted light to moderate rain in many districts of Saurashtra, south Gujarat, Diu, Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, in the next 24 hours. Although, north Gujarat and Kutch are not likely to receive torrential rain, but a few places in these regions may witness light showers.

The sky remained cloudy for most part of the day on Sunday with sun playing hide and seek with citizens. The city witnessed a good spell of rain every two-three hours making Sunday even more pleasant for Amdavadis. Monday is expected to witness a similar weather.

“Monsoon was active over the state, but yesterday’s upper-air cyclonic circulations over Gujarat now lies over Rajasthan and adjoining areas,” an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

“Rains and thundershowers are likely to occur at many places in south Gujarat and Saurashtra, and some places in north Gujarat and Kutch region,” he said. However, the off-shore trough, extending from south Gujarat coast to Kerala, still persists, added the officials.

While no warning has been issued by the IMD for the ports and fishermen, warning for heavy rains in the state has also not been given yet.

The official said that after two-three days, a pressure might build over Bay of Bengal, resulting in good rainfall in Gujarat.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, Gandhinagar, Surat, Navsari in south Gujarat, Jamnagar in Saurashtra, Kheda, Anand and Banaskantha in north Gujarat regions have received good rainfall in the last 24 hours. Umerpada in Surat recorded the highest rainfall of 180mm, while Kamrej received 149mm and Gandevi in Navsari got 118mm. So far, Gujarat has only received about 30 per cent of the season’s average rainfall.
