Kheda police officers investigating the hooch tragedy have said that liquor supplied to Ahmedabad by Vinod Chauhan aka Dagdi, the prime accused in the illicit liquor racket, is not the sole reason for the deaths in Ahmedabad.

They have said that Dagdi never brewed the liquor himself, but only procured it from small breweries located on the outskirts of different villages around Mehmedabad and supplied it to Ahmedabad. As such, if the liquor was spiked in Mehmedabad, there should have been casualties here as well.

“He did not have a single bhatthi in Mehmedabad where country-made liquor is brewed. Even when we raided his house in Vachhawadi village, there was nothing but two buffaloes and other household stuff. He would simply gather the small liquor consignments from several breweries on the outskirts of different villages and the final consignment would be handed over to his counterparts in Ahmedabad only. Our informers say that Dagdi had never supplied liquor to any place other than Ahmedabad,” said an officer who was part of the raid.
