AHMEDABAD: As the political heat soared, so did the mercury, giving no respite to people. As politicians braved the heat and brought campaigning to a close, they were also worried if the heat would impact polling on Thursday. Humidity levels, too, remained low, giving no relief to people across the state. Weatherman predicted heat wave conditions in the next couple of days, adding to the sweat on the politicians’ brows.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Ahmedabad, on Tuesday, the city recorded maximum temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius, highest in the last six years.
About heat wave conditions, meteorologist, IMD, Ahmedabad, Manorama Mohanty, said, “Severe wave conditions are likely to prevail in parts of Saurashtra-Kutch and heat wave conditions in different parts of Gujarat for next one to two days.”
And, the worst part one cannot even hope for cool winds as monsoons are nowhere in sight.
Another IMD, Ahmedabad official said, “The relative humidity level in the state has also dropped drastically. In Ahmedabad, the humidity level dropped to 10 per cent in the evenings from 28 per cent in morning hours. The air is completely devoid of any moisture affecting the normal life activity in the city.”
The record hottest day ever since Ahmedabad started keeping meteorological records was 51 years back in year 1958, when mercury touched 46.2 degrees Celsius.
