Safexpress puts up 2.74 lakh sq ft logistics park

Ahmedabad : Supply chain and logistics company Safexpress Pvt Ltd unveiled its high-tech logistics park spread over 2.74 lakh sq ft area at Changodar on the city’s outskirts on Saturday.

The park, which will provide trans-shipment and 3PL services, is part of the company’s strategy to develop 32 ultra-modern logistics parks at key industrial hubs in India. This park is the company’s third such facility after Gurgaon and Nagpur.

According to Safexpress officials, the decision to set up the park in Ahmedabad was taken because the city is fast emerging as a key logistics hub in India thanks to increased manufacturing activities and proposed SEZs.

Speaking on the occasion, Safexpress GM (marketing) Vineet Kanaujia said, “Ahmedabad holds a very promising future, thanks to its growing textiles, pharma, chemicals and infrastructure industries.” According to him, from the point of view of supply chain and logistics, Ahmedabad holds a crucial position as Gujarat has a road network of over 73,500 km.

“With 95 per cent of this network comprising surfaced roads, opportunities for supply chain and logistics are immense. Our logistics park, located on NH-8A, is well connected to different parts of the country,” he added.

Talking about the Ahmedabad park, Kanaujia said it would be a 24×7, 365 days a year operation, to provide time-definite’ deliveries to over 560 cities across the country.

The logistics park would have dedicated bays and docks providing for uninterrupted and uni-directional flow of inbound and outbound goods and would enable loading and unloading of over 50 vehicles simultaneously.

Safexpress plans to create 5 million sq ft of additional warehousing space across the country over the next couple of years, adding to its existing warehousing space of 5 million sq ft, he explained.

The company, which is targeting revenues of Rs 1,000 crore by 2010, hopes to ride the warehousing revolution in India by capitalising on the demand for ultra-modern warehousing that is expected to hit the fast lane once Central Sales Tax is phased out by 2010 and will make it lucrative for manufacturers to outsource warehousing requirements to third parties, he added.
