Kodnani’s bail plea deferred

AHMEDABAD: The bail application of the former Gujarat Minister of State for Women Welfare, Mayaben Kodnani, an accused in the Naroda-Patiya and Naroda Gaam communal riots cases of 2002, has been deferred for hearing on April 27.

Ms. Kodnani, now in judicial custody, had applied for bail, the hearing for which came up in the Ahmedabad Metropolitan Court on Friday.

The Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team wanted some more time to complete investigation.

The court re-scheduled the hearing for April 27.

Ms. Kodnani and her co-accused in the Naroda Gaam case — Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Jaideep Patel — surrendered before the SIT on March 27 after the Gujarat High Court cancelled their anticipatory bail earlier granted by the Ahmedabad Sessions Court.
