RAJKOT: A man who was wanted in connection with a spate of crude oil pilferage from the district was caught from Ahmedabad on Thursday. Rajkot crime branch officials caught Hira Bharwad, who had been on the run for past two years, when they raided Thakkar Bapa Vas in Ahmedabad city with help of their counterparts there.
Bharwad is the kingpin of a gang, which stole thousands of litres of crude oil from Sayla-Mathura pipeline from Jiyana village near Kuwadwa of Rajkot district in 2007. During one such theft, police caught five members of his gang, but Bharwad managed to escape.
Bharwad's gang was involved in similar thefts in Surendranagar district as well. Confessions and leads provided by the arrested gang members helped police nab Bharwad.
