Modi eying GCA post
The wily strategy was revealed to DNA by a cricket administrator who had recently moved a no-confidence motion against Amin in the Central Board of Cricket Ahmedabad (CBCA), the most powerful affiliate of the GCA, based in Ahmedabad. And DNA has learnt that once the chief minister is sure that he can garner the required numbers to take over the GCA, he may openly step into the ring.
The official said that Modi’s presence at the GCA’s helm will add impetus to the effort of Arun Jaitley, a BJP stalwart, to increase their (BJP) influence in the BCCI. Jaitley is currently the president of the Delhi District Cricket Association. “The chief minister is very close to Jaitley,” the official said. “And if Modi comes to power at the GCA, it will certainly help the former law minister and BJP as a whole in the long run.”
The official said that Shah was currently gearing up for the CBCA elections. The CBCA has 11 members and the faction controlling it usually commands the GCA. By all accounts the coup plan, involving the CBCA as the first warfront, has already been activated: Amit Shah’s confidante and the CBCA secretary Bharat Dudhia is among those who moved the no-confidence motion against the Amin-led CBC.
“Shah may have taken up the challenge to topple the current GCA administration, but the chief minister is calling the shots,” official said. But those rebelling against Amin recognise that the battle for the GCA will be protracted and that they would need a formidable force behind them. “Brand Modi is big enough. So he is an ideal
person to take on Amin,” one of the GCA members said.
Other GCA sources told DNA that closed-door meetings have become routine these days. “Administrators as well as the opposition members are not letting go of the slightest opportunity to persuade voters,” one of the sources said.

India bundled out for 76 runs in Ahmedabad Test
( Watch: India all out for 76 runs at Motera )
Led by Dale Steyn and Makaya Ntini, the Proteas sent the Indian innings spiralling into an abyss from the first few overs of the match.
Indian captain Anil Kumble, who passed a late fitness test, won the toss and elected to bat first on a pitch that had more than a tinge of green on it. With Sachin Tendulkar out with a groin injury, India went for the extra bowling option, picking Irfan Pathan in his place.
R P Singh kept his spot, despite appearing to be short of both form and fitness in Chennai. South Africa made no changes from the side that got them a comfortable draw in the Chennai Test.
Ntini drew first blood for his team by having opener Wasin Jaffer caught at slip by South African skipper Graeme Smith at his individual score of nine. Steyn and Ntini picked up the next two wickets of Virender Sehwag for six and VVS Laxman for three.
From there, it was a virtual parade of Indian batters walking back despondently to the dressing room. Saurav Ganguly scored a duck, Rahul Dravid three. Wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored 14, while Irfan Pathan scored an unbeaten 21.
Kumble, RP Singh and S Sreesanth scored ducks, while Harbhajan Singh scored one. Steyn claimed five wickets and Ntini three, while Morne Morkel claimed the remaining two. There have been four results in the eight Tests played at this venue, with South Africa losing their only game here in 1996.
