Finally, Gujarat Police have proof of Lashkar’s involvement in Ahmedabad blasts

Ahmedabad, ‘Lashkar-e-Toiba operative Nasir Raziuddin has confessed to his role in July 26 blasts,’ say cops
Nasir Raziuddin, who was arrested in connection with the July 26 Ahmedabad serial blasts, has reportedly confessed to his involvement in the conspiracy during interrogation. Investigating officers have said that for the first time they have clear leads to establish the direct involvement of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in the Gujarat blasts.

An alleged militant having links with LeT and Huji, Nasir, at present, is in the custody of the Ahmedabad City Detection of Crime Branch (DCB). Sources said that he is likely to be named as one of the key conspirators in the Ahmedabad serial blasts soon.

“Nasir has confessed to having taught the youths from Gujarat in the SIMI training camps, bomb-making with ammonium nitrate, ball bearings and other locally available materials. He has also confessed to having conspired with others to trigger blasts in Gujarat. His interrogation has given us some more leads that establish LeT’s direct involvement in the recent blasts,” a senior DCB officer said.

Son of Maulana Naseeruddin, who is one of the accused in the assassination of former Gujarat home minister, Haren Pandya, Nasir was recently brought to Ahmedabad in connection with the July 26 serial blasts. Until then, he was lodged in Belgaum Jail in Karnataka on charges of waging war against the nation.

“Nasir’s role in the Ahmedabad serial blasts surfaced following the confessions of Abbas Sameja and Javed Ahmed Sheikh. Sameja and Sheikh had attended training camps in Halol and Kerala, where they had met Nasir and got trained by him,” the officer added.

According to the DCB, although Nasir was in Belgaum Jail when Ahmedabad blasts took place and was not involved in the execution of the blasts, he was very much involved in the conspiracy.

They also said that they are in the process of bringing those arrested from Mumbai and Mangalore to Ahmedabad. Mohammed Ali, Javed Ali, Naushad, and Ahmed Bava—all associates of LeT’s Riyaz Batkal—had been arrested in Mangalore, while Mohammed Zakir Shaikh, Afzal Usmani, Mohammed Sadiq Ahmed, Aman Arif Shaikh and Shaikh Mohammed Ansar were arrested in Mumbai.

“We want to corroborate what Nasir has told us about LeT’s involvement in the blasts in the city and across the country,” an investigating officer said.
