AHMEDABAD: Subharti primary school in the campus of JL High School in Maninagar resounded with angry shouts and slogans on Wednesday as parents went on a rampage, protesting against molestation of a six-year-old girl student.
The incident had taken place on last Friday when the girl had told her parents that she had been molested by a male staffer, employed for keeping the school and its toilets clean.
On Wednesday, more than 300 parents gathered at the school campus, demanding that the accused, Dahyabhai Singrotia, be handed over to them.
The parents then went on to ransack the school. They broke window panes, flower pots and damaged furniture. Angry slogans rang out in the campus as the parents led by a team of angry mothers went on a rampage.
Maninagar police station officials too rushed to the spot to bring matter under control. The primary school was then forced to culminate its session at 2 pm, at least an hour before time. Parents expressed their anger against
the school authorities by shouting slogans.
They then stormed Maninagar police station in an angry mood. Police had to resort to mild lathicharge to bring situation under control.
On Wednesday, parents filed a complaint at Maninagar police station. Dahyabhai was later arrested from his house and booked under section 354 of IPC.
Dhananjay Mehta, one of the agitating parents, said, “Protests will continue and we won’t let the guilty off this easy. We have called for a meeting on Thursday, and other schools in Maninagar will remain closed in protest.”
District education officer, PB Gadhvi, said, “We are investigating the allegations and if found guilty, punitive action may be initiated against the school authorities.”
