AHMEDABAD: A team of city police officials raided shanties near the Chandola lake on Wednesday and recovered a consignment of 12.7 kg cannabis.
Allasa Darvesh, who hails from Karnataka, was arrested when he was at home along with his wife Shaheen and eight-month-old son for keeping the contraband. The raid was conducted by assistant commissioner of police, Usha Rada, following a tip-off about cannabis being sold at Chandola lake.
According to police officials, interrogation of Darvesh has revealed important links of cannabis trade. Police officials said that according to the accused the cannabis that he had was grown in Andhra Pradesh – especially in the forests and mountains there.
Darvesh has also said that earlier too he had brought several consignments of cannabis to Ahmedabad for sale. The accused has said that his wife and son used to be his disguise for innocence, while he conducted his illicit trade.
“There is lot more to learn from Darvesh. We hope to know more about the inter-state cannabis route and also who he used to supply the cannabis to, in the city and elsewhere,” said police officials.
