Kanaji Thakor was selected for the post of mayor of Ahmedabad at a meeting of BJP councilors today morning. Dr Kalapana Bhatt was selected for the post of Deputy Mayor. Their names were announced at 10 AM today after the meeting of the BJP councilors.

Kanaji Thakor is a 3 time councilor from the Madhupura ward and Dr. Kalpana Bhatt is a councilor in her 2nd term from Narod Muthiya ward. They will be formally elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor at the meeting of the General Board of the AMC at 11 AM today. The BJP enjoys a comfortable majority in the AMC and hence there would be no difficulties in getting them elected.

As per the rotation policy in AMC the 2 and half year term of the Mayor would go to an OBC candidate. There was a lot of speculation over the candidates for the post of Mayor in the past few days.

With this the term of Amit Shah as Mayor and Dinesh Mackwana as the Deputy Mayor comes to an end.
