AHMEDABAD: Paresh Dani was elected president of Rajpath Club on Sunday after a meeting of the club’s managing committee. Paresh Dani is the brother of Girish Dani, secretary of Karnavati Club.
Dani was elected along with three other office bearers. This puts an end to the controversy surrounding the club’s elections, albeit temporarily. The newly-elected committee will function for two months, after which formal elections for the club’s managing committee will be held.
Others who were elected on Sunday are Mukesh K Patel as the vice president, J B Patel continues as the honorary secretary and Nitin K Patel as honorary joint secretary.
The elections took a legal turn in December, 2007, when a section of the club’s members obtained a stay from a civil court. The issue raised in the petition was about the resolution taken by the managing committee to cancel elections slated for December 30, 2007.
The decision to elect 30 members to the board of directors as well as the managing committee for Rajpath Club Ltd had been taken in the first week of December at a board meeting. During this meeting, a decision to hold the club’s AGM on December 29, followed by elections on December 30 was taken. The matter then went to Gujarat High Court.
