Gujarat finally shifts top cop on poll panel order

Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Satish Sharma was appointed as joint commissioner of police (Ahmedabad) (Sector I), replacing P K Jha.

The Commission had last week ordered Sharma’s appointment but the state government had not immediately complied with it.

Finding no response to its directive, the Commission had summoned the state’s Chief Secretary Manjula Subramaniam to Delhi to explain the reasons for non-compliance.

But the chief secretary could not visit Delhi as she was indisposed, sources said.

Sharma is known for his stern attitude towards troublemakers during his earlier posting as Ahmedabad joint commissioner during the communal violence of 2002
