Even as the Election Commission (EC) on Friday cleared the names of two IPS officers – S K Saikia and G S Malik – as also of IAS officer Mamta Verma, and directed the Gujarat Government to appoint them as the Ahmedabad police chief, DIG (Border Range) and Gandhinagar Collector respectively, the Commission has sought from the government fresh panels of names for the posts of remaining three SPs and Valsad District Collector who figure in the list of the transferred IPS and IPS officials.
Sources in Sachivalaya said that appointment orders of Saikia, Malik and Verma were being processed, and these officers are expected to take charge of their respective posts soon. A 1977 batch IPS officer Saikia, who was recently promoted to the post of Additional DGP (Communications) will replace J Mahapatra as the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner, while Malik who was till now DIG (CID, Crime) has been appointed DIG (Border Range) in place of I M Desai. A 1996 batch IAS officer Verma will replace Sonal Mishra as Gandhinagar Collector.
The sources said that since the EC did not find competent enough the IPS and promotee IAS officers for the post of Patan, Tapi and Rajkot (rural) SPs, and also that of Valsad Collector, it has sought fresh panels of names of officers from the government for these posts.
The government is expected to send the fresh panels of names to the EC either by late this evening or tomorrow morning.
