Ahmedabad, (PTI): The Ahmedabad District Collector on Monday banned the airing of a local Gujarati news channel for 15 days in violation of the Model Code of Conduct which is in place for the December Assembly polls.
“The channel had aired a political programme without the prior approval of the committee formed by the Election Commission,” Collector Dhananjay Dwivedi, who is also the District Election Officer said.
For airing any political content, the channel required to take prior permission as per the model code of conduct, which was not done in this case, he said.
The channel owners have approached Chief Electoral Officer, V K Babbar, for review of the ban.
“We have received an application from the channel. We will look into the allegations against it and review the decision of the Collector tomorrow,” Babbar told PTI.
