Sunday CA exams cancelled after paper leak

AHMEDABAD: For the first time in 57 years, question papers of the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) — the first level of examination for the Chartered Accountancy (CA) course — were leaked on Sunday. The paper leak was exposed during a TV sting operation.

The exams were scheduled from 9-11 am and from 12.30-2.30 pm but all hell broke loose when the channel flashed the exam paper at 8.45 am in New Delhi.

Thousands of examinees who took the test in Ahmedabad were dismayed after they heard that their question paper had been leaked. After a lot of speculation and rumours, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) admitted to the fiasco.

ICAI president Sunil Talati, based in Ahmedabad, said, “We called an emergency meeting with the executive committee and the examination department and lodged an FIR in New Delhi.” He later told mediapersons that the exams have been cancelled and rescheduled for August 26.

Rumours throughout the morning kept students on tenterhooks. Yashraj Rathor, a student who appeared for the test, said, “During the break between two tests, the college authorities announced that the report about the paper leak is a rumour and we should continue writing the paper.” This did little to resolve matters and confusion prevailed throughout the day.
