AHMEDABAD:
Thieves stormed into the house of a retired judge late on Saturday and decamped
with valuables including cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 4.43 lakh. The
incident happened when retired High Court judge H H Mehta had gone to Pune with
his entire family to meet his
son.
However, before leaving
for Pune, Mehta had given the keys of his bungalow Subhash-III — in
Satellite area — to one of his neighbours. Mehta was aware of the
increasing theft cases in the area and so had asked his neighbour Manjula to
keep a check on his bungalow at regular
intervals.
When Mehta had
called her up on July 24, everything was normal in his house. Mehta once again
called up Manjula on Saturday and asked her to check his bungalow. When she
opened the house, she was aghast to see that there had been a burglary and
immediately informed the Satellite police about the
theft.
Police said, “The
thieves made a safe entry into the bungalow without anyone noticing them.
Initial investigation reveals that they sneaked into the house from a window.
This is evident from the missing iron grills of the window in the rear side of
the house.”
“It is evident that
the thieves had access to the master key as the almirahs and cupboards were
unlocked, not broken into,” said K C Rajput, police inspector at the Satellite
police station.
