Rally was sabotaged: Cong; planned riot, counters BJP

LEADER of
Opposition Arjun Modhwadia has claimed that their protest in
Gandhinagar on Thursday was sabotaged by government agencies by
planting non-Congress goons who began pelting stones, prompting the
police to tear gas the party’s rally at the Gh-3 circle here. The
government hit back by calling it a Congress conspiracy to bloody the
soil of Gandhinagar.

In a
press statement, Law Minister Ashok Bhatt said that the opposition
party that once led the oust-British movement on the same day in 1942,
had stooped so low as to engineer a riot in the State capital.

Modhwadia claimed
that their plan was to start in a procession from the venue toward the
secretariat, and court arrest if not allowed.

“But
even as we were making our speeches, this stone pelting started outside
the venue between police and some men. I have enquired and we could not
find who these people were,” he said, indicating toward the possibility
of Chief Minister Narendra Modi using some anti-socials in sabotaging
the walk to the Secretariat before it began.

The
violence began at the venue even as speeches of Modhwadia and Gujarat
Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) chief Bharatsinh Solanki were going
on to an audience of few thousand Congressmen.

In a
separate statement, CM Modi lashed at the opposition party for
launching an “oust-Modi” campaign under the leadership of a foreigner
(Sonia Gandhi), ironically on a day when the same party had launched an
“oust-Whites” campaign.
