Students from Gujarat will soon be able to do a two-year post-graduate programme in clinical research partly in Ahmedabad and partly in UK.
The Institute of Clinical Research (ICRI), which has campuses in Dehradun, Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore has established its newest campus in Ahmedabad and launched its programme in collaboration with the Cranfield University of UK.
Officials from Cranfield University announced that meritorious students who finish the second year of their programme at Cranfield would be eligible for placements under Cranfield itself and can take up jobs in the UK.
These students would then qualify for the graduate scheme where students who pursue their masters in the UK presently receive work permits faster than those who apply from India after completion of their masters course.
Last year, 14 students from ICRI opted the study at Cranfield for their second year and have reportedly received job offers even before they complete their final examinations.
The Ahmedabad campus is to be headed by Shruti Shukla and will have a mix of around 8-9 permanent and part-time faculty members along with visiting faculty members from Cranfield University. Anthony C Woodman, Associate Dean and CEO, ICRI said that considering there is a demand of close to 50,000 professionals in clinical research in India, Cranfield is considering bringing a two-year masters in Healthcare Operations Management and a two-year masters in bio-informatics linked to molecular medicine in the coming years.
S K Gupta, dean of ICRI said that the institute would be looking at forging more such industry-academa tieups with corporates in the country and would also create a placement cell for clinical research professionals in the country.
