Vadodara in a raid carried out by the Gandhinagar CID Crime branch on
Saturday night. The mastermind, Jayesh Thakkar, notorious for selling
chemicals in black market, has also been arrested. The CID also seized
huge quantities of chemicals, equipment to siphon liquid and other
goods amounting to Rs 25 lakh.
Deputy
Superintendent Of Police (CID Crime) G B Padaria conducted the raid on
Saturday night at plot number 416 in Jawaharnagar area of Ranoli. “We
had received a tip-off about this operation and have been collecting
information about the gang for a while. We managed to nab the kingpin
and his accomplices,” said Padaria. He added that after the raid, the
rest of the investigation will be handled by the Vadodara police.
The arrested

Giri from Uttar Pradesh, Vinod Misra from Ahmedabad, Javed Dunia from
UP, Darshan Dunia from UP, Santosh Thakur from UP and Arjun Darbar from

CID
officials say Thakkar and his associates ran a mafia in the area, where
they would pilfer chemicals from passing tankers and store it in their
godowns. Padaria said, “They would later sell the chemicals on the
black market for a handsome profit. They have been operating for many
years now but we caught them red-handed on Saturday.” He added that in
most cases, Thakkar would befriend tanker drivers and cleaners and
after paying them pittance, would siphon chemicals from their trucks
and store it.
The
confiscated goods from plot number 416 in the Ranoli GIDC include
chemicals worth Rs 10. 6 lakh, equipment to siphon and store chemicals
worth Rs 38,000 along with mobile phones, Rs 55,000 in cash and tanker
