Congress today lashed out against Chief Minister Narendra Modi saying that his government was to create disasters and not for disaster management. Chief Spokesperson of Gujarat Congress Shaktisinh Gohil said today that the gates of Kalubhar Dam in the Bhavnagar district were broken by the rising water of the dam because the gates could not be opened.

As a result, he said the water flooded the area around the dam causing great damage to people and property. He said that the functioning of the gates should have been checked well in advance as part of disaster management.

Similarly, damaged to the canals built under the Sujlam Suflam project was another example of inefficient functioning of disaster management by Modi government. He said that Modi has taken the disaster management expenditure out of the purview of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) just to siphon funds for his own publicity.

Pointing out that all government expenditure is put under the scanner of CAG he demanded that Modi should change the rules which provide freedom to disaster management activities from the CAG. This is to ensure that all the money given to the state government was spent rightly.
